You think I’m joking, but some of this game is considered official, if loosely canonical, tie-in material. Because somehow, a kids’ game actually has more character development and plot than the movie it’s based upon. In fact, if anyone’s been capitalizing on the new era with gusto, it’s Lego and TT Games with Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens. It’s definitely rubbed me the wrong way a few times. Now, I’m sure it comes as a shock, but I’ve been known to be critical of the new era of Star Wars. Try again later.Star Wars month begins for Second Look, and we’re starting with an unusual choice. May you rest in peace and love, Carrie, now that you are one with the Force. Without the slightest hesitation, and just the hint of a smirk on her face, Carrie wrote: “Blow me.” He asked her to write something unique and special that she had never written before. One of my favorite memories is this: During a Star Wars Celebration convention in Orlando, a male fan produced a poster for Carrie to sign. We will each take away our own memories of Carrie, whether you met her in person or remember her from her 60 years of acting, writing and commentary. Watch one of the many convention videos of her, and you will hear more than a few – ahem – potty-mouthed adult words she would drop during a live interview. The hours-long lines at fan conventions, whether for her stage show, Carrie Fisher: The Princess Diaries, or for an autograph or photo op, were but one indicator of Carrie Fisher’s immense popularity.Īnd like her sassy, take-no-prisoners alter ego, Princess Leia, Carrie had a dry wit about her that endeared her to legions of fans. Wishful Drinking discussed a variety of personal topics, including her bipolar disorder, drug addiction, growing up as Debbie Reynolds’ daughter, and motherhood.Ĭarrie had just finished promoting her latest work in London, The Princess Diarist (2016), when she suffered a heart attack as her flight from London approached Los Angeles. She followed up with a memoir, Wishful Drinking, based on her one-woman stage show of the same name. The book led to a movie of the same name in 1990 starring Meryl Streep and Shirley MacLaine. In 1987, Carrie Fisher wrote a semi-autobiographical novel, Postcards from the Edge, about an actress who struggles with a near drug overdose and who attempts to rebalance her life. I survived that, I’m still surviving it, but bring it on.” She once said, “I have a chemical imbalance that, in its most extreme state, will lead me to a mental hospital … I am mentally ill. In fact, she seemed to wear her challenges on her sleeve, like real-life combat badges, signs of triumph over adversity. The actress who played Princess Leia did not hide her decades-long battle with bipolar disorder or her drug addiction. I will leave the biographical details to the mainstream media and, instead, share this perspective from a fan: Carrie Fisher was a longtime fan favorite, not just because she was an “A List” star from the Original Trilogy, but because of her wit, her genuine interaction with fans, and her honesty.
